Written language has a long history of influencing feeling and thought. In our current era, we often rely on images to evoke emotion. This poses an obstacle for those who can’t access visual formats. Without a text description, images, videos, and memes remain out of reach.
Current tools that automate descriptions aren’t able to capture the emotional sentiment at the heart of visuals. Going beyond automatic accessibility text offers an opportunity to explore an additional creative layer that expands the original artifact.
The future of accessing visual media is not only about who or what makes the images, it’s also about how we describe them. In this spirit, we present poetic transcripts of the Making of Material You film series celebrating Google’s new unified design language, first introduced in 2023.
