Mimi Onuoha is an artist and researcher examining the implications of data collection and computational categorization. Her work uses code, writing, and sculpture to explore missing data and the ways in which people are abstracted, represented, and classified.

Onuoha’s Search Term Poetry project used a Twitter bot to string together random keywords from the search history of her and two friends.

She analyzed data from the Asian American Performers Action Coalition to help Broadway document its dramatic race problem.

Onuoha once tried (and failed) to find out where her electricity comes from.

That which we ignore reveals more than what we give our attention to. It’s in these things that we find cultural and colloquial hints of what is deemed important.
