Thanks to everyone who attended (or livestreamed) SPAN LA on October 27, 2016. This year’s speakers included legendary artist Peter Shire, photographer Shannon Ebner, creative director Dmitri Siegel, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory creative strategist Jessie Kawata, designer Geoff McFetridge, KCRW’s Frances Anderton, and many more.
SPAN explores the ways in which design and technology shape our everyday lives. A conference created by designers for designers, this year’s events in Tokyo and Los Angeles focused on the creative communities in each location. Featuring makers and thinkers who educate and inspire us, SPAN is our opportunity to highlight the best in today’s interdisciplinary design practice.

“How do you translate design to radio? We’re talking about people and voices. You look for human stories, you look for drama, for relevance. You try and convey a strong point of view without sounding preachy, and you celebrate the voices behind the creativity that interests so many of us.”
“With Song Exploder I’m trying to force the design process into the process of music-making. Because I think that for a lot of musicians there isn’t really a coherent, articulated sense of why you do everything—the way there might be in design.”
